Paddy Power’s “Last Man Standing” competition is back!

It’s simple, just pick the winner of one Premier League match each week. If your selection wins you progress to the next week. If your team loses or draws you’re out. The competition runs until there is just one winner and that person scoops the whole prize fund!

You can choose any team (regardless of price!) but you cannot choose the same team more than once (unless the tournament last more than 20 weeks of course). That does however mean that you could pick whoever is playing Arsenal every week for 19 consecutive weeks and hope that their dubious form continues! An interesting strategy which you can choose to follow, or simply ignore… the choice is yours.

10 Deals that WON’T happen on Transfer Deadline Day

Transfer Deadline Day is now one of the most eagerly anticipated days in the British football calender since the introduction of the Transfer Window.

But whilst Shaun Maloney’s move to Wigan may come off, and Shaun Wright-Phillips may well get his ‘big move’ to QPR, there are many more deals (a.k.a. made up rumours) that won’t.

Here we’ve taken a tongue-in-cheek look at just a few of them…

1 ) Marc Overmars in talks with Arsenal about a possible return

2 ) Romario close to signing for Bolton to fill the void left by Johan Elmander

3 ) Karl Fletcher spotted leaving Harchester United’s ground after agreeing a deal with Man City

4 ) Rivaldo‘s father and agent spotted [Read full article »]

Aston Villa v Wolves – Match Preview

Saturday 27th Aug 2011, 12:05 pm KO, Villa Park (SS2)

Last season’s midlands derby had extra spice as both sides had the possibility of relegation hanging around their proverbial necks.

This season though, sees two teams that have made excellent starts to their respective Premier League campaigns, starting the weekend in fourth and third in the table. Indecently they have both played Fulham and Blackburn so far this season, with only Villa dropping points after picking up a draw at Craven Cottage.

Alex McLeish relieved some of the pressure coming from the Villa faithful after they claimed a 3-1 win last weekend, playing some exhilarating stuff on the way. They come into this game as 11/10 favourites (Bet365), whilst Wolves will [Read full article »]

Liverpool v Bolton Wanderers – Match Preview

Saturday 27th Aug 2011, 5.30 pm KO, Anfield  (SS2)

Liverpool will host Bolton Wanderers in Saturday’s live evening kick-off as they look to continue an unbeaten start to their Premier League campaign.

They will be brimming with confidence on the back of a 2-0 win over Arsenal last weekend, the first time the Reds had ever won at the Emirates.

Dalglish’s side are also in the hat for Round 3 of the Carling Cup after their 3-1 win at Exeter in midweek, avoiding a repeat of their early exit at the hands of League One side Northampton last season.

Despite not having Danny Sturridge up front this season, the Trotters have found goals easy to come by so far this campaign, scoring [Read full article »]

Bolton v Man City Preview

Sunday 21st Aug 2011, 4:00pm KO, Reebok Stadium (SS1)

Bolton and Man City come into this game as joint table-toppers, both having won their opening fixtures 4-0 against new boys QPR and Swansea respectively.

Man City unsurprinigly come into this as odd-on favourites (5/6 – Boylesports) after impressing in Monday night’s live television game, boasting 15 shots on target;  the most any Premier League team has managed since Tottenham’s 9-1 defeat of Wigan in 2009.

Bolton also did a demolition job on Neil Warnock’s QPR and there may be a few takers at the generous 4/1 (Ladbrokes) for [Read full article »]
