Sports Personality of the Year 2011 – Nominations

The 10-man shortlist for the BBC’s 2011 Sports personality of the Year was announced earlier this week and it proves to be exactly that.

Not a single woman made the shortlist; the first time this has happened since the nomination process was changed in 2006 to allow selected journalists and editors, including those from Zoo and Nuts (that explains a lot!), to vote.

That meant that the likes of Beth Tweddle (winner of a third successive European Championship) will have to miss out this time around.

England v Spain – Match Preview & Odds

Gary Neville is a Scouser – FACT

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has Scouse roots… apparently.

The Liverpool-hating Sky Sports pundit was appearing on Sky One’s quiz show ‘A League of Their Own’ when host Jame Corden revealed that he is in fact a descendent of a great, great, great grandparent born in Liverpool.

Neville has been outspoken about his hatred for all things Liverpool in the past, including the classic line: “I can’t stand Liverpool, I can’t stand the people, I can’t stand anything to do with them.” [Read full article »]

Betfair sponsor Bromley FC players to have branded haircuts

Those crazy marketing people at Betfair have gone one step further than sponsoring Bromley FC’s shirts for their FA Cup first round tie against Leyton Orient at the weekend. Instead they have sponsored Danny Waldron to have a QR Code shaved into the back of his head. Classy.

Chilean players kicked out of squad for drinking on the job(ish)

Chile coach Claudio Borghi has booted out five players from his World Cup qualifying squad after it was revealed that they returned “late and drunk” from a night out earlier this week.

The squad was awarded an evening off following an “excellent” training session on Tuesday morning, but instead of staying in their hotel rooms playing scrabble, the players decided to hit the town and return 45 minutes later than their 10pm curfew permitted.
