The geekiest football fans around?

- The Italian fans launch flares on the pitch
– The English fight when we lose
– The Brazilian fans are all 19-year old models with DD breasts

Ok, so this is a tongue-in-cheek look at football fan stereotypes. But how would you describe a Turkish football fan? Probably not like this…

At the weekend, instead of going for the traditional banner banter (one which would be confiscated on entry!), fans of Turkish side Karsıyaka decided to drag football hooliganism into the 21st century.

They revealed a giant QR code banner and within minutes had hundreds of fans scanning the banner to find out what the hidden message was.

Viewers were then directed to a website full of abusive language aimed at rival Göztepe fans.

Nice work. 10 out of 10 for imagination.

Liverpool v Man Utd Preview – FA Cup 4th Round

Liverpool secured a Carling Cup Final place in midweek after defeating Roberto Mancini’s men and now they must play “that other” Manchester club with a place in the draw for the FA Cup 5th round up for grabs.

Much controversy surrounded the game when the two sides last met in October, with the game eventually finishing 1-1. Steven Gerrard and Javier Hernandez were on the scoresheet on that occasion and they are 15/2 (Paddy Power) and 7/1 (Ladbrokes) respectively to net the first goal this time around. A repeat scoreline pays 6/1 (Ladbrokes).

Man Utd have had more time to prepare and are [Read full article »]

Mancini’s Men 2/1 to make Carling Cup final

Liverpool are on the verge of planning their first trip to Wembley since 1996, after beating Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad a fortnight ago in the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final tie. They are now best priced 4/9 (Victor Chandler) to qualify.

Man City’s performance was noticeably flat on that occasion, yet instead of trying to take a 2-0 or 3-0 lead into the return leg, Kenny Dalglish threw on more defenders late in the game and settled for just the single goal victory away from home.

Mancini’s men must improve significantly if they [Read full article »]

Anton Ferdinand 13/8 NOT to shake John Terry’s hand

QPR defender Anton Ferdinand is 13/8 with Paddy Power to avoid the traditional pre-match handshake with John Terry when the two sides meet in this weekend’s FA Cup 4th Round clash.

The game at Loftus Road will be the first time the 2 have met since the Chelsea and England captain was charged following the incident in October and the game comes just 4 days before Terry makes his long-awaited court appearance.

The 31-year-old is set to face trail at West London Magistrates over the alleged racist comments made towards Ferdinand during their clash at Loftus Road; a game in which QPR ran out 1-0 winners.

QPR are keen to avoid [Read full article »]
