Cheltenham Festival 2015 Tips – Day 4 (Friday)

After a good start to the Festival, we dipped on Day 2 and failed to tip a winner. We soon turned back into profit on Thursday, the highlight being Call The Cops winning the Pertemps Final at 10/1 – meaning we are back in profit as we enter the final day of the 2015 Cheltenham Festival.

Back in 2013 we tipped the first 4 winners on the Friday (a 974/1 acca no less!), and we sure would settle for anything close to that this time around!

Don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @BigBettingBlog for more Cheltenham Festival news, tips, competitions and banter. Why not tweet us your selections/winners and we’ll RT a few of the best.

Here’s to a enjoyable (and profitable!)conclusion to the 2015 Cheltenham Festival…

1:30 JCB Triumph Hurdle

Both Nicky Henderson and Willie Mullins saddle a trio of runners and the winner may come from there. PEACE AND CO (11/4) boasts the best form could take all the beating. Petite Parisienne could be the best of the Mullins runners and could run a big race if Bryan Cooper can get him settled early doors.

PEACE AND CO – 3pts Win @ 11/4 (William Hill)

Profile of recent winners:

  • Sired by a group 1 winner
  • Posted an RPR of 132+ last time out

2:05 Vincent O’Brien County H’cap Hurdle

Just the 26 runners to contend with in the County Hurdle and the best place to start would be with the trends. SORT IT OUT (10/1) meets most of them and is improving with every run. The Game Changer will be popular with punters but comes of a lengthy break, as does Quick Jack. 5 year-olds have a great record in this race and VIOLET DANCER (25/1) was an impressive winner of the Betfair Hurdle last month and warrants a small E/W bet.

SORT IT OUT – 1pt E/W @ 12/1 (Coral, 5 places)
VIOLET DANCER – 0.5pt E/W @ 25/1 (Coral, 5 places)

Profile of recent winners:

Bet365 » Back a winner at 3/1, get a free bet on next race (£25 max, ALL customers)
BetBright » Refund if your horse is 2nd to the Fav (£25 max)

2:40 Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

Another wide-open affair. You could make a case for at least half of the field here, but we’re siding with BLAKLION (14/1) who was 3rd to Parlour Games (2nd in the Neptune earlier this week) back in December and represents decent value at the price. Willie Mullins is mob-handed once again, and Black Hercules will probably be a popular Fav under Ruby Walsh.

BLAKLION – 1pt E/W @ 14/1 (Paddy Power)

Profile of recent winners:

  • Aged 6 or 7 (or a 5yo French bred)
  • Irish or French bred
  • Ideally sired by King’s Theatre, Oscar, Video Rock or Bob Back

  • Finished in first 2 in Bristol, Prestige and/or Classic Novice Hurdle
  • Had not run on the flat
  • Course winner (or trained in Ireland)
  • Trained by Jonjo O’Neill or Charles Byrnes
  • Priced 9/1 or shorter

Best offers on the race:

Coral » Refunded bets if your horse is a faller.
Bet365 » Back a winner at 3/1, get a free bet on next race (£25 max, ALL customers)
BetBright » Refund if your horse is 2nd to the Fav (£25 max)

3:20 BETFRED CHELTENHAM GOLD CUP

A large field go to post for this year’s renewal of the Gold Cup and we have a fascinating race in prospect. SILVINIACO CONTI (9/2) has to be the horse to beat, and is drifting as I type due to the rain but that won’t put me off. He was super impressive in the King George and should take the spoils here too at the 3rd time of asking. 2013 and 2014 winners, Bobs Worth and Lord Windermere, both come back for another crack at this but neither have looked like winning this season.

SILVINIACO CONTI – 3pts Win @ 9/2 (Bet365)

Profile of recent winners:

  • Aged 6 to 9
  • Irish or French bred
  • Had 5 to 11 career chase starts (2 to 5 this season)
  • Finished in first 2 in all chase starts over 2M 6F+ this season
  • Second or third season chaser (or previous winner of Gold Cup)
  • Won last time out and posted RPR of 162+
  • Posted an RPR of 167+ in last 2 chase starts
  • Won over 3M+
  • Won a grade 1 chase (ideally this season)
  • Finished in first 3 in a grade 1 chase at 2014 Festival
  • Finished in first 2 in Hennessy Gold Cup, Betfair and/or Denman Chase
  • Finished 1st or 2nd in either the Lexus or King George this season
  • From first 3 in the betting (favourite does especially well)
  • Trained by Paul Nicholls or Nicky Henderson

Best offers on the race:

Coral » Refunded bets if your horse is a faller.
Bet365 » Back a winner at 3/1, get a free bet on next race (£25 max, ALL customers)
BetBright » Refund if your horse is 2nd to the Fav (£25 max)

4:00 St James’ Palace Foxhunter Chase

2-time winner Salsify comes back for the hat-trick having missed the 2014 Festival through injury but we’re taking him on with Enda Bolger’s ON THE FRINGE (8/1) who was 3rd in this last year and has been running well so far this. Paint The Clouds and Current Event boast eye-catching form figures and appear to be the main dangers.

ON THE FRINGE – 1pt E/W @ 8/1 (Paddy Power, 4 places)

Profile of recent winners:

  • Aged 7 to 9
  • Irish, French or German bred
  • Finished in the first 3 last time in the past 35 days (ideally won)Posted an RPR of 133+ last time
  • Won 1 or both of last 2 completed starts
  • Run no more than 3 times under rules this season
  • Has won 2+ chases under rules (or run in less than 7 chases)Run in no more than 3 handicap chases
  • Won over 3M+
  • Won or placed in a class 3 or better chase

  • Finished in first 2 Raymond Smith Memorial, Jospeh O’Reilly and/or Silks@DownRoyal Hunter Chase
  • Trained in Ireland (that won a point to point this season)

Best offers on the race:

Coral » Refunded bets if your horse is a faller.
Bet365 » Back a winner at 3/1, get a free bet on next race (£25 max, ALL customers)
BetBright » Refund if your horse is 2nd to the Fav (£25 max)

4:40 Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys H’cap Hurdle

MCKINLEY has already won a Grade 1 at Naas and was deemed good enough to contest the Deloitte Hurdle, finishing a respectable 5th and has to make the shortlist. JOLLY’S CRACKED IT could prove to be a decent E/W price too having finished 5th in the Betfair Hurdle last month.

MCKINLEY – 1pt E/W @ 12/1 (Bet365, 5 places)
JOLLYS CRACKED IT – 1pt E/W @ 20/1 (Paddy Power, 5 places)

Profile of recent winners:

  • Aged 4 to 6
  • Allotted 11-5 to 11-10 (and ideally ridden by 3lb claimer)
  • Officially rated 139 to 143
  • Run 4 to 5 times this season
  • Ideally won last start over hurdles
  • Posted an RPR of 137+ on last hurdles start

BetBright » Refund if your horse is 2nd to the Fav (£25 max)

5:15 AP McCoy Grand Annual H’cap Chase

The Grand Annual will be AP McCoy’s last ever Cheltenham Festival ride and has been names in his honour. The Champ rides favourite Ned Buntline for Noel Meade and it would be a great way to round off his final Festival! But we’re backing GRUMETI (18/1) to spoil the party at a big price. He already has a Festival win and place on his CV as a hurdler and has been in good form this season once again.

GRUMETI – 1pt E/W @ 18/1 (William Hill)

Profile of recent winners:

  • Aged 5 to 9
  • Irish bred aged 8 or older or French bred aged 8 or younger
  • Carrying less than 11-0 (watch out for horses ridden by talented claimers)
  • Officially rated 138 to 147
  • Finished in first 3 in last completed chase
  • Had last outing in the past 45 days
  • Posted an RPR of 136+ in 1 or both of last 2 chase starts
  • Had 4 to 12 previous chase starts
  • Run in 4 or fewer handicap chases
