Expect runs, runs, runs in Adelaide

The Ashes Series went off with a bang at The Gabba as Australia strolled to a 381-run victory and the sledging that followed has added even more spice to the 2nd Test in Adelaide, where England will be looking to level the series.

England were well-fancied to retain the Ashes before a ball was bowled, but are now as big as 7/2 in the betting (Paddy Power) to win the series (Australia 4/7SkyBet).

The crushing defeat was mainly down to a 1st innings collapse which saw the visitors rack up just 136 runs, almost handing the game to the Aussies.

They will need to sort out their batting line-up, one which will see a reshuffle following the departure of Jonathon Trott,  if they have any chance of retaining the famous urn.

Australia are the bookies favourites to win the match and take a 2-0 lead in the series and you can understand why given they have lost just 3 of the last 11 Tests at the Aledaide Oval. Bookmakers SkyBet are offering odds of 13/8 to do just that, with William Hill offering a standout 3/1 for England to level it at 1-1.

Mitchell Johnson was the main thorn in England’s side in Brisbane (four for 61, five for 42) and William Hill make him 5/2 to be the Top Australian Bowler in the 2nd test; a price which might tempt a few in, including us.

Michael Carberry caught the eye in the 1st Test and is 6/1 to Top Score for the visitors, but we fancy Alistair Cook to return to form and will be taking the 7/2 for him to top score for England in the first innings.

In terms of a result, it may be wise to look at the draw (6/4William Hill). Historically Adelaide has been a batting heaven with the average score in the last 10 tests being an incredible 473. The new pitch is already been described as ‘slow, low and flat’ so expect plenty of runs!

Draw – Match Result – 6/4 (William Hill, SkyBet)
Alistair Cook – Top England Batsman – 7/2 (Bet Victor)
Mitchell Johnson – Top Australian Bowler – 5/2 (William Hill)

- If your Top Batsman selection finished 2nd behind his team’s captain, Bet Victor will pay out as a winner. What’s more, if your selection is run out they will refund losing bets up to £50. [More Info]
