Germany the value in ‘Most Corners’ market | Germany v Portugal Preview

The second game of Group B features two of the fancied teams, with Germany and Portugal going head to head in their opening Euro 2012 fixtures. Low’s side are 11/10 favourites for the game, whilst Portugal have been backed into 3/1 (Stan James).

Germany’s full backs will have to be on top form if they are to stifle the attacking threat of Cristiano Ronaldo and co.

The Real Madrid star is 6/1 to bag the first goal and is just 2/1 to score anytime. If you fancy him to run riot against Mertesacker and his fellow defenders Paddy Power are offering 11/1 for him to score two or more goals and 50/1 to bag a hat-trick.

Mario Gomez was the pre-tournament favourite to be top goalscorer, but given his reputation for ‘bottling it’ on the big stage, he might have to settle for a place on the bench with Miroslav Klose likely to start up front. Klose is 6/1 to bag the first goal.

The Germans have an array of attacking talent, with the likes of Muller, Reus, Ozil, Schurrle, Kroos, Gomez, Podolski & Klose battling for just five starting places. The only German Midfielder guaranteed of a place (fitness permitting) is Bastian Schweinsteiger so it might be worth holding of on your bets until the teams are announced.

It is worth noting that Germany have score 3 goals or more in 8 of their last 9 European Championship games, and also in the last three games against Portugal. They are 4/1 to score 3 or more in this (SkyBet) and that might be worth a small bet given the talent they have.

This is a difficult game to call score-wise and is one we’ll be leaving alone. There’ll be much easier games to predict and so would be better to save your cash for these.

In games like this it is worth delving a little deeper in to some of the less popular markets and one bet that stands out here is the ‘Most Corners’ market.

Germany will surely have most possession and whilst the result is hard to call, the 10/11 for them to win more corners than their opponents looks value.
