Manchester City v Swansea City Preview

These 2 clubs last met in the 1980s in what was then the First Division. They met 4 times during that decade,  taking a share of the spoils, winning 2 games each.

A lot has changed since then and the big spending Man City come into this as big odds on favourites (4/11 – bet365) whilst the Barclays Premier League’s first Welsh team are 10/1 (Boylesports) to cause an upset.

With Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool all dropping points on the opening weekend, City will be looking to show thier hand and prove that they are genuine title contenders by getting off to a good start.

Manchester City v Swansea – Team News

Infuencial skipper Carlos Tevez is likely to sit out this clash after returning to training only a week ago. With an uncertain future ahead of him and a plethora of other attacking options available, Mancini will surely opt against throwing Tevez back into the starting XI so soon.

Tevez’s international strike partner, Sergio Aguero may be in line to make his debut after his £38m move from Atletico Madrid, though is likely to come of the bench as opposed to start.

Man City have a formidable defensive unit with Vincent Kompany at the heart of it. Gael Glichy will be looking to make his debut at Eastlands following his big money move from Arsenal.

Swansea skipper Garry Monk may be forced to sit out the Swans’ Premier League debut after struggling in pre-season with a foot injury. He should however be fit for the home game against Wigan Athletic at the weekend.

New goalkeeper Michel Vorm could start in goal after completing his summer switch from FC Utrecht. Manager Brendan Rogers could also had debuts to some his other new signings at the Etihad Stadium; Danny Graham, Leroy Lita, Wayne Routledge and Steven Caulker.

Manchester City v Swansea – Betting Tips

Although we don’t expect the visitors to fold in the same way QPR did on their Premier League debut at the weekend, they will surely be up against it here.

Man City hade a formidable home record last season under Roberto Mancini (conceding just 12 goals and losing only twice) and they should have too much for newly promoted Swansea on this occasion. City finished the season strong (winning 9 or their last 10 home games) and we expect them to win without conceding at what looks a decent price (5/4 – Ladbrokes).
