Ronaldo & co. value to beat Czechs | Portugal v Czech Republic Preview

The knock-out stages of Euro 2012 get underway tonight when Portugal take on the Czech Republic at the National Stadium in Warsaw.

Both sides lost their opening games of the tournament but have bounced back well to qualify from their respective groups and Portugal are well fancied to progress (1/3) whilst the Czech Republic are best-priced 5/2 to make the semi-finals.

The two teams met in Euro ’96 quarter-finals, with the Czech’s coming out on top thanks to Karel Poborsky’s famous ‘scoop’ goal.

The score was 1-0 on the day and a repeat scoreline for the Czechs pays 14/1 (Victor Chandler), while the reverse is available at odds of 6/1.

Portugal meanwhile come into this game as 3/4 favourites according to Paddy Power and that looks to be the value to us.

The Czech Republic have been far from convincing and if Cristiano Ronaldo and co. turn up they should have more than enough for their opponents who are missing influential captain Tomas Rosicky.

The Portuguese star-man, who already has 34 international goals to his name, is just 7/2 to net the first goal of the game and Evs to score anytime. And whilst there is a decent chance that both could happen, we won’t be playing at odds as short as that.

We strongly fancy Portugal to come out on top in this one and we predict an open game given that both sides have strong attacking options but are relatively weak at the back. With that in mind the Over 2.5 looks decent value at 6/5 too.

Portugal v Czech Republic Tips

Portugal To Win – 3/4 (Paddy Power)
Over 2.5 Goals – 6/5 (Victor Chandler)
Portugal 2-1 – 8/1 (Victor Chandler)
