Sven Goran Eriksson sacked by Leicester City

The former England boss was relieved of his duties by the club’s Thai owners earlier this evening following a lenghtly meeting at the King Power Stadium.

Although Leicester City haven’t quite set the division alight since the Swede arrived, the decision does look incredibly short-sighted given that a win at the weekend would have placed the Foxes withing the top four positions in the Npower Championship.

Instead they sit just in the bottom half of the table, but remain just two points of the play-offs and five short of an automatic promotion spot.

Eriksson only took over at the King Power Stadium 13 months ago with the club sitting deep in the relegation spots.

But, boosted by the loan signings of Yakubu and Kyle Naughton, the Foxes began to climb the table and finished the season in the top half.

However, Leicester’s owners, King Power, are understood to be unhappy with the return on the club’s £10million summer spending spree as they target a return to the Premier League this time around.

And despite Eriksson’s strong managerial reputation around Europe, the board at Leicester have seemingly run out of patience and wielded the axe.

Martin O’Neill is the early favourite to succeed Sven:
