Chilean players kicked out of squad for drinking on the job(ish)

Chile coach Claudio Borghi has booted out five players from his World Cup qualifying squad after it was revealed that they returned “late and drunk” from a night out earlier this week.

The squad was awarded an evening off following an “excellent” training session on Tuesday morning, but instead of staying in their hotel rooms playing scrabble, the players decided to hit the town and return 45 minutes later than their 10pm curfew permitted.

The Argentian manager confirmed to the awaiting Chilean media that the players were “not in a state adedquate to a professional player” and so took it upon himself to boot the guilty parties (Jorge Valdivia, Jean Beausejour, Carlos Carmona, Gonzalo Jara and Arturo Vidal) from his 2014 World Cup Qualifying squad earlier today.

The squad are in the middle of their preparations to take on South American opponents Uruguay and Paraguay on Friday and Sunday respectively.
