Gosden to get season off to a flyer in Lincoln

The Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster traditionally marks the start of the horse racing flat season and we fancy last year’s Champion Trainer John Gosden to get off to a flyer this time around too.

William Buick will ride the Gosden-trained LAHAAG (10/1 – bet365), a horse which has won 2 of his 4 starts to date and was beaten by a head by fellow Lincoln runner Chapter Seven (10/1) last time out.

John Gosden won this race in 2009 with Expresso Star so knows exactly what it takes to win the Lincoln Handicap.

Not only was the horse in good form last season but meets most of the major Lincoln Handicap trends too…

Lincoln Handicap Trends (Lahaag)

  • 9 of 10 winners had won 1 of their last 4 starts (won 2)
  • 4yo have won 6 of the last 10 runnings. There has only been one winner aged 7 or older in the past 20 years (4-y-o)
  • 8 of 10 winners carried between 8-9 and 9-2 and all 10 winners carried at least 8-9 (carries 8-12)
  • 9 of 10 winners (including the last 5) were officially rated 95 or higher (rated 95)
  • 7 of 10 winners finished in the first 3 on last turf start (5 won) (2nd)
  • 10 of 10 winners previously gained 2 to 4 career wins (2 wins)
  • 10 of 10 winners had won no more than 3 handicaps (1 h’cap win)
  • 9 of 10 winners won over 1M+ (exception was 2nd in previous year’s Lincoln) (2 wins at 1m)
  • 8 of 10 winners were having their first run of the season (yes)
