2014 World Grand Prix Darts – Preview

The Citywest Hotel in Dublin will once again play host to the 2014 World Grand Prix Darts event which gets underway on Monday evening.

The event is now in its 17th year and Phil Taylor, looking for his 12th Grand Prix title, will start as favourite once again (2/1).

Before placing your bets, it is worth noting that the format of the World Grand Prix is different to any other TV event on the PDC calendar as players must start and finish on a double. So players who struggle to hit their doubles (none more so than Gary Anderson!) tend to struggle for obvious reasons and high scoring will only get them so far in the World Grand Prix!

Back Kim to outscore his big brother on the oche

The 2014 PDC World Championship got off to a flyer over the weekend as we saw two 9-dart finishes in the first couple of days!

We landed 3 of the 4 selections last night, with just Chisnall letting us down for a clean sweep.

Tonight’s action is a bit more low-key with none of the top 10 players on show. That said there are some potentially close 1st Round matches to get stuck into for tonight’s darts tips…

Jackpot and MVG to serve up a high-scoring feast!

This match between Michael van Gerwen and Adrian Lewis could be the best of the tournament so far.

They really enjoy playing each other as they are 2 of the quickest players on the circuit and use that to get into a rhythm. They often feed off each others scoring power and we could see a high scoring game.

In their last 6 matches they have played a total of 128 legs and hit 94 180’s between them.

Ronny to slay George and progress to KO stages

Ronny Huybrechts looks set to top his group in the Grand Slam of Darts and is 2/5 (Bet365) to beat Richie George on his way to doing so.

Huybrechts (older half brother to Kim) is quite new to the darts circuit but has already had some excellent results this year.

Ronny made the final of the World Cup of Darts and the Players Championship. He also beat Phil Taylor on his way to reaching the semi-final of the European Championship.

Back the ‘Bully Boy’ to progress in the Grand Slam

Tonight sees Michael Smith and Ted Hankey lock horns in what is a crucial Group H match in the Grand Slam of Darts, and we fancy the youngster to come out on top at 4/5 (SkyBet).

Smith is leading the head-to-head stats 3-0 and that is a trend which we think will continue tonight.

He has been playing well so far in the tournament; throwing brilliantly against Dave Chisnall and whilst he lost to Scott Waites, he still has a 95 tournament average which is not to be sniffed at.
